Huawei Nova: Changing the game

The Nova series from Huawei has always been a youth-centric smartphone! They have superbly catered to the needs of youngsters in a manner no other companies have been able to. It all began with the international launch of the original Nova alongside the Nova Plus back in 2016 to the unveiling of the Nova 2 and 2 Plus in 2017. And fitting the last piece of the puzzle is the launch of the Nova 2i which revolutionized the entire mid-tier smartphone segment. Maybe this is the reason why the Huawei Nova 2i became the best selling mid-tier smartphone in Nepal.

Huawei Nova 2i, the most loved camera phone

After the groundbreaking success of the Nova 2i, Huawei is back again with two new smartphones. Just recently the company unveiled their latest addition to the Nova series, the Nova 3 and the Nova 3i. As the name suggests, the Nova 3i is the successor to the high-selling Nova 2i. If the past is any indication, the Nova 3i will sell like hotcakes in the Nepali market. But what makes the new phone exciting and the Nova series so successful? Well, the answer is simple- customer focus.

Huawei has always been good at listening and understanding the needs of their consumers. This is something that sets the company apart! And since the Nova series targets youths with raging hormones, it is only natural for them to focus on their needs.

The youths wanted a large bezel-less display, the Nova 2i packed a 5.9-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The youths wanted better cameras, the Nova 2i packed a quad-camera setup. The youths wanted a smooth yet feature packed phone, the Nova 2i packed EMUI with tons of features. I could go on and on but you get the gist of it! And continuing on that trend are the two new phones, the Nova 3i and the Nova 3.

But before we talk about these phones, let’s talk about another Nova phone, the Nova 3e. The phone is sort of a cousin to the Nova 2i who rebelled and got the trendy notch design. Yes, the Nova 3e was the first mid-tier phone from Huawei to pack the infamous notch. The phone holds a special place in my heart as I recently used it and haven’t gotten the most out of it.

The Nova 3e built on what the Nova 2i had to offer and metamorphosed into something unique. The glass-on-glass design, the dual-cameras brought the taste of the P20 Pro, Huawei’s flagship, into a more down to earth flavor. The Huawei Nova 3e, no doubt, is one of the best mid-tier smartphones the company has produced. No wonder it managed to snatch away an Editors’ Choice Award from us.

Enough about the past, let’s now talk about the future of the Nova series. Both the Nova 3i and Nova 3 are highly anticipated by the Nepalese consumers. Both the phones have a lot to offer at their respective price tag. The Nova 3, as well as the Nova 3i, packs a 6.3-inch Full HD display with a notch. They both make use of premium materials, glass and metal, as their standing structure. The Nova 3, however, comes in strong with the Kirin 970 processor while the 3i packs the newer Kirin 710 SoC. The processors are backed by 6GB and 4GB of RAM respectively with 128GB of internal storage.

In the camera department, both the phones pack a quad-camera setup. The Nova 3 combines a 16+24MP at the rear and a 24+2MP sensor at the front. While the Nova 3i comes with a 16+2MP rear camera and a 24+2MP selfies camera. No doubt, the quad-cameras are the highlighting feature of the phone! Both the phones come with a rear fingerprint scanner and a Face Unlock feature. They also run EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. And finally powering the devices up is a 3750mAh battery for the Nova 3 and a 3340mAh for the Nova 3i.

With these specs, the Nova series is looking to take over the Nepali market. The Nova 3 and the 3i definitely will change the game in the mid-tier segment when Huawei launches the phones later this month (July 27). With all that the Nova series has to offer, there is no scruple why it is one of the highest-selling smartphone series in Nepal. And it will continue to do so, in the future!
