Huawei Nova Series: Beauty and the beast

Just recently, Huawei launched their latest premium mid-tier smartphones, the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i here in Nepal. And man, they are gorgeous with their glass back and a metal chassis. Not only the looks but the two new phones have some powerful internals to back it up. This, however, is not a current trend but a long-running formula that makes the entire Nova series so popular.

Huawei Nova 2i, the most loved camera phone

The Nova series, from Huawei, has always had a perfect marriage between style and performance. They look meticulous at the same time being potent in what they do. Maybe this is the reason why the Nova 2i became the best selling mid-tier smartphone in Nepal. The Nova 2i, with its metal-clad body and Kirin 659 processor was able to win over the Nepalese consumers. Not only the processor but the phone had other powerful components to back it up. Things like the inclusion of 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage played a huge role in keeping the phone ready for anything. Even the custom software, EMUI, assisted the phone to give users the prudence of perfect usability and performance.  A complete symbiotic relationship between these components has made the Nova 2i the amazing smartphone it is today.

The same is the case for the two new Nova smartphones launched recently. But before we talk about them, let’s take a look at another unique Nova smartphone, the Nova 3e. I call the phone unique as it was a first of its kind, at least from Huawei, to sport a notch. The phone brought the burning trend to the mid-tier segment.

Huawei Nova 3e: Nepal Reviews

Not only the notch, but the overall design of the phone was in a league of its own. The glass body with a metal chassis brought the taste of the P20 Pro, Huawei’s flagship, to a more down to earth flavor. The feel of cold glass, in the morning, is something you have to experience to get a feel for. Truly an amazing feeling device! The performance of the phone too was as good as its design. The same Kirin 659 processor made a return on this phone with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Overall, the phone performed exceptionally well while looking at the top of its game.

And continuing that trend are the two new smartphones, the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i. From my limited time with the phone, at the launch event, I can say the phones feel and perform extremely well. They employ the same glass-on-glass design with a metal chassis, just like the Nova 3e. But to my surprise, the phones feel even more premium and sturdy in the hands.

The new color options are also something to gush over! In Nepal, the phones come in some unique colors including Black, Iris Purple, White, and Red. The Red color variant is something of an eye-catcher that helps to make a statement. This variant is quite unique and I am glad Huawei brought it here. Although the Red color is quite meticulous, my favorite color definitely is the new Iris Purple. Introduced with the P20 Pro, this color is somewhat of a gradient between dark blue and purple. This gives the phones a unique look compared to other plain old colors. Maybe this is the reason Sadikchya Shrestha, the host of the launch event, kept insisting that it was her favorite color. And I totally agree with her!

Nova Series

Before I keep gushing over the looks of the new Nova smartphones, let’s talk about their performance. The phones, on initial impressions, performed extremely well! This is largely thanks to the Kirin 970 for the Nova 3 and the Kirin 710 for the Nova 3i. These chipsets are some of the best SoC that Huawei has to offer. This time around, the Nova 3 packs a whopping 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, by default. The Nova 3i also doesn’t shy out, packing 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The high storage capacity is a nice touch!

The Nova series without a doubt is a perfect marriage between design and performance. Huawei, with the Nova series, has always prioritized the need for an ergonomic design at the same time keeping the core performance at bay! No matter what the material- no matter what the internals, the Nova series has always managed to look gorgeous and perform great. Truly, the Nova series is a beauty as well as a beast!
