Different people use tablets for a different purpose! For some, a tablet is just for entertainment purpose, while some use it as a workstation. While most Android tablets have outdated specifications, the Mi Pad series are some of the few Android tablets that are worth recommending because of their respective specifications and affordable prices. Xiaomi, a Chinese tech giant, mostly known for providing value-for-money phones has now launched the 4th generation of their beloved Mi Pad. The company, on 25th of June, has expanded its under $200 offerings with the latest Redmi flagship and an Android tablet.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 design and overview

The Mi Pad 4 has a metal unibody built, which gives it a more premium look and feel than most budget Android tablets. The tablet has relatively small bezels with 77.1% screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi is also promoting how it can be used with just one hand. The Mi Pad 4 has an 8-inch WUXGA IPS LCD display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The display has 1920x1200p resolution with pixel density of 283ppi. Technically, the Mi Pad 4 features a lower resolution display than the Mi Pad 3 and the Mi Pad 2. The move to a 16:10 aspect ratio from a 4:3 aspect ratio may also be thought of as a downgrade for productivity tasks, but opinions on this can vary.

The tablet has a 13MP (f/2.0) rear camera with geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR features. For selfie, the Mi Pad 4 has 5MP (f/2.0) lens up front. The phone is capable of recording Full HD videos at 30fps with its rear camera.

This GPU is more powerful than the Adreno 509 of the Snapdragon 636, which is a sweet addition. Onboard storage is at 32GB or 64GB with no option to expand the memory.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C, 3.5mm headphone jack and OTG. Sensors on the tablet include a Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, compass (LTE model only) and Gyroscope. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is powered by MIUI 9 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. This also means that it’s required to have Project Treble support. And fueling up the device is a 6000mAh battery with regular 10W charging.
