Xiaomi recently released the MIUI 12, its custom-skin in China a month ago. Now, the company has announced the global release of the new and improved MIUI 12 with new user interface and privacy tweaks. Lets take a look at the new MIUI 12 features and UI changes Xiaomi has made. MIUI 12 global update schedule starts from June with different groups of phones.
Most android smartphones now come with their own spin on the user interface of the Android OS. These software skins on the core Android OS provide custom-tailored experiences to the users of many smartphone brands including Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oneplus, etc. Companies also get a chance to add extra features along with tweaks for hardware like cameras to increase the performance and usability of the phone.
MIUI 12 New features and improvements
MIUI 12 has introduced new circular elements along with new animations in its UI. There is a new Control Center, along with an improved dark mode.
The Control center can be accessed by swiping down from the right side of the display . It is similar to the controls you get when swiping down for notifications. However, there are more shortcuts to different functions in a single place with the Control Center. You still can swipe down the left side of the screen to access notifications panel.
MIUI’s upgraded dark mode comes with a dark color combo for both native apps and third-party apps. The dark mode helps during night time to reduce eyestrain along with the benefits of reducing battery consumption. Note that this is applicable for phones with AMOLED displays.
Xiaomi has also include new Super Wallpapers which have motion in them. These wallpapers feel similar to the Live Pixel wallpapers from Google. However, there is more variety as different wallpaper animations follow user interactions like unlocking the phone.
The improvements aren’t just limited to the mentioned topics either. You now have the option to use an app as a floating element which makes it easier for multitasking. Apps can be used as a minimized windows while using another app.
MIUI 12 Privacy Controls
MIUI 12 has also introduced new features useful for maintaining control over the data used and permission granted to android apps. There is a dedicated Permission manager to see what permissions are granted to which apps. There are different toggle options to check notifications and history of your activities in your phone.
MIUI 12 has also introduced the new Background permission notifications feature to track apps that are using sensitive datas like location, microphone and camera from your phone.
