Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro 2018 launched silently

Samsung has silently launched their latest budget smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro (2018). The phone, now, offers better specs, premium build, upgraded camera sensors, and a selfie flash. That all included, here are the things the phone brings to the table for a price of $144 (Rs 15,000).

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) packs a 5.0 inch 540 x 960 AMOLED display with a pixel density of 220PPI. Encasing the internals of the phone is a metal chassis with a plastic back. Under the hood, the J2 Pro (2018) packs a quad-core Qualcomm MSM8917 Snapdragon 425 along with the Adreno 308 GPU. The processor is backed by 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The memory of the phone can be further expanded via a micro-sd card up to 256GB. The phone also supports dual-sim cards and is 4G capable.

In the camera department, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) packs an 8MP rear camera accompanied by an LED flash. The front camera too comes with an LED flash assisting a f/2.2 5MP sensor. The phone sadly, this time too, doesn’t come with a fingerprint scanner. With other smartphones offering the biometric option even in the budget category, it is a shame Samsung decided to skip it. The phone, nonetheless, packs a proximity sensor, an accelerometer, and a digital compass. Moving on, at the software front, the J2 Pro (2018) runs Samsung UX based on Android 7.1 Nougat. And finally, powering this device all up is a 2600mAh user-removable battery. This coupled with the low-res display will be enough to get users a full day of usage on a single charge. And if the battery does run out, you can swap it for spares (sold separately).

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) looks to be a good budget smartphone, at least on paper. That said, the phone makes compromises in key areas like the lack of a fingerprint scanner, low display resolution, and the weird/low 1.5GB RAM capacity. These are things that play a huge role in the users day to day experience. Budget smartphones from other companies are offering a lot of features for a lot less price. This, in our opinion, is a bad move from Samsung!
