Design-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 plus will feature the same glossy/smudgy glass-on-glass design as its predecessors but with a few tweaks behind the sleeves. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will sport 5.8 inches and 6.2-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED Display respectively. The Galaxy S9 will be the first smartphone to use the ‘Y-OCTA’ display technology which Samsung claims to be thinner and have better crispier optical resolution than any other displays out there in the market. And also, did I forget to mention that Galaxy S9 and S9 plus will feature edge-to-edge curved infinity display with 90% screen-to-body ratio making it almost a bezel-less beauty.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC or Exynos 9810 SoC depending on the region. The S9 series is likely to be unveiled in two variants namely the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. The regular variant will have 4 GB RAM with 64 GB onboard storage. While the Plus will have 6 GB RAM and varying storage options ranging from 64 GB to 128 GB.

The Galaxy S9 Plus will also sport vertically aligned dual lens camera setup while the regular S9 will come with a single camera lens. It has claimed the Galaxy S9 will launch with a 12-megapixel rear camera and f/1.5 variable aperture lens (up to f/2.4), while the Plus will feature dual 12-megapixel cameras with respective f/1.5 and f/2.4 cameras. The cameras will be equipped with the sensors like OIS for image stabilization.

This 3-stack fast readout sensor will allow cameras to record video in Full HD resolution at a whopping 480 frames per second, which means that super-slow-motion will also be supported at a high-resolution with faster autofocus. The S9 and S9 Plus both will feature front camera of 8 MP, with autofocus and the iris-scanning technology as seen previously. The Galaxy S9’s iris scanner will be integrated with the front-facing camera, while the Galaxy S9 Plus will have a discrete iris scanner and a regular selfie camera.

The duo Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are likely to have battery capacities of 3200 mah and 3500 mah lithium ion batteries. But there’s innovative factor Samsung has achieved with this device adopting Substrate Like Printed Circuit Board (SLP) technology that provides more room to internal components than previous technology. Because of this Samsung was able to pull off more space for larger batteries and a sensor for built-in FM radio capability. This is a huge exception for flagship grade smartphones as no other flagship devices offer FM Radio support in the recent years. The onscreen fingerprint sensor seems to be less likely to appear on Galaxy S9 devices as we can see a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor from rendered images.

Samsung virtual assistant ‘Bixby’ has been of sub-par experience but it seems Samsung isn’t going to ditch it. Bixby still has a dedicated button for AI assistant with the S9 series. The S9 and S9 Plus are rated with IP68 Certification making it water and dust resistance. The room for internal components has kept alive the joy of a 3.5 mm headphone jack with the Galaxy S9’s.

It is also reported that the Galaxy S9 will come with an updated DeX docking station that will enhance productivity and the Android experience. The devices are rumored to run on Google’s Oreo software with Samsung Experience UI on top of it.
