In a last couple of years, we have seen a lot of smartphone companies hitting the Nepalese market like a storm. While other companies are playing aggressively in the flagship and mid-tier range, TECNO, here in Nepal has been selling feature phones and budget smartphones. That said, TECNO is nowhere with the TECNO Camon i2 with a design of today’s trend.

TECNO Camon i2 Overview

The TECNO Camon i2 comes with a 6.2-inches HD+ IPS LCD display at the front. The display has a resolution of 720×1500p and features a trendy 18:9 aspect ratio. The design looks refreshing as you will see a notch on top. On the notch, there is a selfie camera, earpiece, and basic sensors.

Powering the device is a 1.5GHz Quad-Core MT6739 processor. This chipset is not as good as the Snapdragon 625 but will get the job done. The device comes with 3GB of DDR3 RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.

In terms of camera, the device shines. TECNO Nepal has been marketing this phone as a camera-centric phone. The rear dual camera has a 13MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor for depth sensing. The rear camera setup has a quad LED flash which is not common in a mid-tier smartphone. For selfies, the device features a 16MP sensor with a single LED flash. Looking at the specs, the output of this device should be good, at least on paper.

The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with their custom skin on top. The device also features a face unlock feature. But since it uses the selfie camera for authentication, you can’t expect it to be that secure. The device sports all the basic sensors including gyro, fingerprint and the ambient light sensor which is something that Samsung should learn.

At Rs. 22,995 you can get this smartphone with a refreshing new design. But looking at the competition, the newly launched Mi A2 Lite has a more powerful Snapdragon 625 than the MT6739 in this phone. Looking at the chipset used, HD+ resolution and a plastic body, the pricing is not that appropriate.
