2018 has been a great year for Xiaomi! They launched a lot of smartphones in different price segments. Also, Xiaomi celebrated their 8th anniversary with different models of their flagship smartphone, the Mi 8. It’s been quite a while since Xiaomi launched their flagship in Nepal. There’s no official information about the launch of the Mi 8 in Nepal, however, the toned down variant of the smartphone is finally available for purchase. The Mi 8 Lite is the first Xiaomi smartphone to hit Nepalese market with the dual-tone glass back design.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Overview
Unlike most of the Xiaomi smartphones with an aluminum back, the Mi 8 Lite is totally different in terms of design. The Mi 8 Lite has a glass back, with an aluminum frame acting as the filling. The phone has a gradient back similar to that of Huawei devices. The Mi 8 Lite has a notch on top which is not as wide as the ones found on the Pocophone F1 or the Redmi Note 6 Pro.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite features a 6.26-inches Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels. The display has an aspect ratio of 19:9 along with a notch on top. The phone, now, has Gorilla Glass 5 protecting the display.
Powering the Mi 8 Lite is the same octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 which is found on the Mi A2. The chipset is manufactured using 14 nm FitFET process. The SoC has Adreno 512 GPU for good graphics rendering and multitasking. It also is backed by 4GB of DDR4X RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
Like every other Mi 8 series phones, the Mi 8 Lite also has horizontally aligned dual rear cameras. The dual rear setup has 12MP (f/1.9) Sony IMX363 primary sensor with 1.4μm pixel size and a 5MP secondary Samsung lens for depth sensing. At the front, the Mi 8 Lite has a 24MP (f/2.2) Sony IMX576 sensor with 5-element lens and AI beautify features. The phone also has AI scene detection which can detect 27 scenes. The portrait shots support AI studio lighting, AI adjustable bokeh and AI dynamic bokeh.
The Mi 8 Lite doesn’t have the 3D face unlock or even IR face scanner like in Pocophone F1. However, the phone does come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and software-based face unlock feature.
The Mi 8 Lite runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with MIUI 10 on top. Fueling the device is a 3,350mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. The phone measures 156.4 x 75.8 x 7.5 mm and weighs in at 169 grams. Connectivity options are Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) 2×2 MIMO , Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS + GLONASS and USB Type-C. However, the phone doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack!
