Xiaomi mocks OnePlus

Xiaomi-owned company POCOPHONE has kicked off an advertising blitz on Twitter. The attack was solely aimed at the rival company, OnePlus. The ad was made through its POCO India account, aiming squarely at the brand new OnePlus 6T. Each of the ads in the campaign focuses on a comparison between the pricing of brand new OnePlus 6T and the POCOPHONE F1.

The tidbits of trolling were under the slogan “DO THE MATH” and culminate in a final comparison of pricing. The POCOPHONE F1 is approximately $230 less expensive than the new OnePlus 6T. Both phones ship with a respectable minimum of 6GB RAM and the latest Snapdragon 845 SoC under the hood.

Things escalate fairly quickly soon after, with Pocophone next pointing towards the removal of the headphone jack. From there the company posts about the battery capacity of the two handsets. The POCOPHONE F1 has 300mAh higher figures than the 3,700mAh cell on the OnePlus 6T.

However, this type of stunt doesn’t tell the whole story. Both the devices have some interesting and similar specs. But one should also remember that these are far from equivalent smartphones. The newly launched OnePlus 6T has an amazing glass back, a vivid optic AMOLED display, and a superfast under-display fingerprint scanner. But the Pocophone lacks these features. The F1 has got a plastic back, an IPS LCD panel, and a rear fingerprint scanner. Also, the 6T has more RAM and storage than the one that Xiaomi uses in the price comparison.

People at the OnePlus 6T launch event, however, will not care about how cheap the POCOPHONE F1 is. But Xiaomi moved even forward by gifting calculators to the people at the OnePlus 6T launch event. The company also set up hoarding boards even on the route to the event venue. And we don’t think that it was an ethical move!

In the recent time, we’ve seen Samsung mocking Apple about its ugly notch. Also, Huawei handed out power banks to people waiting for the iPhone XS/Max. Let’s not forget that OnePlus, itself, is also mocking pretty much everyone. Nonetheless, one company trolling another company’s launch for its own gain seems a bit of a cheap move.

The value of each phone is not a simple equation as Xiaomi appears to be suggesting. The OnePlus 6T is definitely worth the extra money. And we can’t ignore the fact that POCOPHONE F1 is a very capable and extremely high-value flagship killer. However, buying a smartphone is an investment and the preference of one consumer may not align well with what other buyers are looking for.

POCOPHONE F1 price in Nepal

Both the phones will be available in Nepal from the 11th of November. The POCOPHONE F1 and OnePlus 6T will be exclusively available in the Daraz 11.11 Sales Day. The Pocophone F1 will be available at the price tag of Rs 33,999. However, the pricing of OnePlus 6T is not yet disclosed by the company (Rs 70,000 approx). We will have to wait until the sales day to see whether the ad campaign affects the Nepalese customers.
