Xiaomi has recently launched the 4GB RAM variant of their popular mid-tier smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 in China. Though Xiaomi has not officially given the word, the phone was listed on an official Xiaomi website. You have the option to choose from either a 2GB, 3GB, and now a 4GB RAM variant. So what does the new variant of the Redmi 5 has to offer for a price tag of CNY 1,099 ($174)? Well, let’s take a deeper look at the phone and find out for ourselves.

Xiaomi launches the 4GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 packs a 5.7 inch HD display (282 PPI) with an 18:9 bezel-less design. The display of the phone is protected by an unspecified Corning Gorilla Glass and is edged out by a 2.5D glass. Encasing the internals of the display is a plastic frame with a metallic back. Under the hood, the Redmi 5 packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor along with the Adreno 506 GPU. The processor is backed by, now, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The memory of the phone can be further expanded via a micro-sd card up to 128GB. The phone also supports dual sim cards but only at the expense of the memory card slot.

In the camera department, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 packs a f/2.2 12MP rear camera accompanied by an LED flash. The phone also comes with a f/2.2 5MP front-camera for all your social media ready selfies. And sitting just below the rear shooter is a fingerprint scanner embedded into the phone’s back panel. Moving on, at the software front, the phone runs MIUI 9.1 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. And finally powering this device all up is a 3300mAh non-user removable battery. This coupled with the 720p display will be enough to get users through a day of usage on a single charge without any issues.
